Weaning food is the food given to an infant when he is changing over from milk diet to solid diet. It is a gradual process. The bulk of the food should be decreases by adding concentrated energy foods like oil, dehydrated foods and malted foods. Cooking time should be as low as possible.
Below here are given recipes of some of the most important Weaning Foods for newborn babies.
Weaning Food

Banana with groundnut

Ingredients

  1. Milk - 30 gms.
  2. Banana - 25 gms.
  3. Jaggery - 25 gms.
  4. Groundnut - 12 gms.

Method

  1. Mash the peeled banana
  2. Grind the roasted groundnuts
  3. Mix banana & groundnuts with milk to get a smooth paste.
  4. Serve it to your child with a small teaspoon.
 

Vegetable Mix

Ingredients

  1. Moong dal(dehusked) - 10 gm.
  2. Carrot - 10 gm.
  3. Potato - 20 gm.
  4. Spinach - 10 gm.
  5. Curd - 25 gm.
  6. Jaggery - 30 gm.

Method

  1. Roast and grind the dal.
  2. Boil and mash the vegetables.
  3. Mix all ingredients to form a smooth paste
  4. Serve.

Sooji porridge with dal

Ingredients

  1. Moong dal (dehusked) - 10 gms.
  2. Jaggery - 25 gms.
  3. Suji - 25 gms.
  4. Milk - 50 ml.

Method

  1. Roast and grind the dal
  2. Roast suji.
  3. Mix suji, dal, jaggery, milk and small amount of water.
  4. Cook to get a required consistency.
  5. Serve.
 

Spinach Burfi with peanuts

Ingredients

  1. Spinach - 100 gms.
  2. Sugar - 25 gms.
  3. Peanuts - 25 gms.

Method

  1. Wash and cut the spinach leaves.
  2. Steam and grind the spinach leaves to a paste and cook till slightly dry.
  3. Roast peanuts, remove the skin and powder them finely.
  4. Prepare sugar syrup of two thread consistency.
  5. Add spinach mixture and powdered peanuts to the sugar syrup.
  6. Spread the mixture on a greased plate and cut into pieces when set.
  7. Serve when required as a snack.

Khichri with spinach

Ingredients

  1. Rice - 50 gm.
  2. Roasted moong dal(dehusked) - 20 gms.
  3. Spinach - 20 gms.
  4. Salt to taste
  5. Butter - 5 gms.

Method

  1. Clean rice and dal. Soak for sometime in water.
  2. Cook in a pan in water (use the same water in which rice and dal were soaked)
  3. Wash spinach leaves. Cut them and boil in water. Mash the leaves and strain through a sieve.
  4. Mix the strained spinach soup with boiled rice and dal.
  5. Add salt and butter.
  6. Serve.
